Hi, I’m Amy! Welcome to the Ridge
Hi, I’m Amy. Welcome to the Ridge.
Garner Ridge wasn't exactly part of the plan.
My husband, Keith, and I thought we had already found our forever home when his retirement—and an unexpected series of events—led us to 16 acres in the West Tennessee countryside.
We came for the peace and quiet. What we found was an entirely different way of living.
Today, Garner Ridge is home to us, a pond full of fish, a flock of chickens, a greenhouse, more projects than we'll probably ever finish, and the kind of quiet that makes it surprisingly hard to leave.
A Little About Me
By day, I spend my career in healthcare, communications and compliance—a world of deadlines, decisions and more meetings than anyone probably needs.
Away from work, life looks very different.
I'm happiest cooking for people I love, setting a table for friends, working on our home, taking photographs, reading a good book, traveling somewhere new, fishing with Keith or wandering outside to see what is happening around the Ridge.
I've discovered that I'm also capable of spending an unreasonable amount of time thinking about chickens, gardens, birds and whatever home project has most recently caught my attention.
Why Garner Ridge Life?
Not long after we moved here, VIP Magazine featured our home in a story called “A Different Pace.”
Those three words stayed with me because they described something I hadn't quite been able to put into words.
Garner Ridge isn't simply where we live. It's changed how we live.
Life here has made us pay attention to smaller things—the first eggs in the nesting box, something new blooming in the greenhouse, hummingbirds fighting over a feeder, fish moving across the pond, dinner outside when the weather is too beautiful to waste.
And yet we still love going places, trying new restaurants, traveling, entertaining friends and dreaming up the next adventure. We also have three daughters, a son, and daughter- and son-in-law, four grandchildren, and three dogs! We definitely stay busy!
That's why I started Garner Ridge Life.
This isn't a blog about having the perfect house or pretending we've mastered country living. We definitely haven't.
It's about making a home, gathering people around the table, going interesting places, trying things we don't entirely know how to do, and enjoying this particular season of life.
If something I share gives you an idea for your own home, your next trip, something to cook, somewhere to go—or simply reminds you to notice something good in an ordinary day—then I'm glad you found your way here.
Welcome to Garner Ridge.
Life at a different pace.
